For five out of six years the Cleburne County Commission is the winner of the 2010 "Award for Excellence in County Government — Rural Category" and will be honored at this year's ACCA Annual Convention.
Cleburne County Executive Officer Steve Swafford made the announcement this week during a meeting of the Cleburne County Commission.
Swafford noted that two-thirds of the counties in the state are within the rural category.
Cleburne County Commission Ex-Officio Chairman Ryan Robertson joined Swafford in commending all of the county employees for helping the county receive the award.
In other matters the commission:
*Passed a resolution to enter an agreement with the Alabama Department of Transportation to use Federal Aid Funds to resurface CR 10 and CR 11.
*Amended a bonding policy "in the interest of serving the traveling public, while also addressing the concerns of the logging industry" to require a letter of credit, certified cashier's check or bond in the amount of $5,000 for tracts over 50 acres in size.
*Passed a resolution to restrict thru truck traffic on CR 663.
*Appointed Melissia Wood and Lisa Kemmerlin to the Cleburne County Public Building Authority
*Adopted a resolution to transfer deed for county property located on Southwire Drive and set aside for the construction of a new county facility, to the Cleburne County Public Building Authority.
*Authorized the county engineer to solicit bids for a variety of items.
