The city of Anniston is working on a strategic plan known as “One City, One Vision.” We have seen great strides in Anniston under the leadership of Mayor Vaughn Stewart and the new City Council members. We have a great opportunity to make things even better with a strategic plan for our city.

As a member of the steering committee, I invite you to participate. Beginning Sept. 12, we will start creating a vision and a plan for the future of Anniston, and we need you to be involved. Public participation in the city’s strategic planning has never happened before and it could be a generation or more before we have another opportunity like it, so don’t miss out.

If you want to be part of this effort:

Get involved. Attend one of the strategic planning workshops on Sept. 12 (6-8 p.m., Anniston City Meeting Center, 1615 Noble St.); Sept. 17 (6-8 p.m., Hodges Recreation Center, 3125 Spring Valley Road); or Sept. 19 (6-8 p.m., Carver Recreation Center, 720 West 14th St.).

These workshops will be the same in format, so you only need to attend one. During the workshops you will have the opportunity to work in small groups with a trained volunteer facilitator to conduct several activities centered on community needs and strong and weak places within Anniston. Details about the workshop are available on the website or contact Carol Cleghorn, 256-237-6766 or ccleghorn@annistonal.gov.

Be informed. Check out the One City, One Vision web site, www.oneanniston.org, and follow us on Facebook at One City, One Vision.

Spread the word. Tell others about One City, One Vision … and direct them to the web site and ask them to like the Facebook page.

If you care about the future of Anniston, for you, your children and your grandchildren please get engaged with One City, One Vision. It is an effort for us to listen, to learn and to do, to get results ... together.
