Calhoun County deputies this week arrested two men on charges of attempted murder and shooting into an occupied building, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Calhoun County deputies identified the suspects as Brandon Omar Williams, 26, and Terrell Montez Batchelor Sr., 26, both of Hobson City.

According to Sheriff Larry Amerson, two separate incidents led to the arrests.

The first offense occurred May 16, when police were notified of a shooting victim seeking treatment at Regional Medical Center.

According to Amerson, the victim had stopped at a red light in Hobson City when a vehicle pulled up alongside him. Someone in the car shot the victim in the arm through the window, Amerson said.

“He said he didn’t know who they were, couldn’t give us any further details, and did not wish to prosecute anyone for that assault,” Amerson said.

Amerson said that based on the characteristics of the injury the weapon used was a handgun. The victim will not have any lasting effects from the injury, according to Amerson.

Four days later, the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office received another call reporting a shooting in Hobson City. The incident occurred at 12:15 a.m. in the 300 block of Wilkerson Drive.

According to Amerson, Batchelor knocked on the door of the residence while Williams hid. A man opened the door and Williams shot that person in the eye, Amerson said. The victim told deputies he did not know the reason for the shooting or who Williams or Batchelor were. Amerson said that he does not know the victim’s condition but that his injury was severe.

According to Amerson, a cell phone found at the crime scene led investigators to make the arrests. The phone belonged to Batchelor.

Amerson also said shell casings found at the second crime scene led him to believe the weapon in that case was also a handgun but investigators do not yet know if it was the same gun.

According to Amerson, Batchelor said he was not responsible for the shootings but was in charge of luring the victim into opening the door so that Williams could shoot.

“We developed information that proved that both shootings were done by one person and that person was Brandon Omar Williams,” Amerson said.

Amerson said the shootings may stem from an incident two years ago. Amerson also said deputies interviewed a number of people who identified Williams as the shooter but did not wish to disclose names because of a dispute between two groups the suspects might be involved with.

Batchelor was arrested by deputies on Monday. Deputies and U.S. Marshals arrested Williams at a hotel in Oxford on Tuesday. Both men were in the Calhoun County Jail on Wednesday afternoon. Bond for Batchelor was set at $20,000 cash, and for Williams at $25,000 cash. Both men are set to appear in court June 20, according to a news release.
