TUSCALOOSA – Alabama guard Trevor Lacey announced he will transfer to another school today.

Lacey, who played two seasons at Alabama, made the announcement through the school in a news release, although he didn't say where he plans to go. Crimson Tide basketball coach Anthony Grant has granted Lacey his release. If Lacey transfers to another Division I school, he will have to sit out a year but will have two years of eligibility remaining.

“It was a family decision to pursue other opportunities,” Lacey said in the release. “This definitely was not an easy decision to make. It’s been great at Alabama during my two years. It was tough my freshman year coming off surgery and having to work my way back. I wanted to improve during my sophomore season and I thought I did that. I want to thank the coaches and staff, my teammates and all the fans for their support.”

As a sophomore this past season, the Butler High graduate was the only player on the Crimson Tide to start all 36 contests. He averaged 11.3 points and 3.8 rebounds a contest and led the team in assists per game (3.2) and 3-pointers made (62) and attempted (166) this season.

“I enjoyed having the opportunity to coach Trevor for the two years he was here,” Alabama coach Anthony Grant said in a news release. “We certainly wish him the best of luck as he continues to pursue his education and his basketball career.”

During his two seasons at Alabama, Lacey played in 69 contests while making 52 starts, averaging 9.3 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.5 assists a game.
